Sure, but this place is always a lot to take. It hits some people harder at some times and other people at other times but no one gets it easy all the time.

And I still have no fucking idea if that's deliberate or the Admiral is just the worst captain ever.

What time has been the hardest for you?

...okay, wasn't expecting that one.

You mean what time on the ship or any time in my life?

[tucky]

Either. In your life, I guess.

In my life, there are so many candidates for worst. I think the hardest was probably when it all fell apart. I lost my job. I lost my wife. I lost my kid because Amanda didn't tell me she was pregnant. Some people would say I lost my sanity. There have been other hard times, obviously, but they almost all tie back to that time in some way.

Can I ask why you ask?

I just realized I never had before. Not in those words, anyway. I probably would've guessed right if I'd tried, since I know you, but I never asked you for sure.

Does the Barge hit less hard, because your hardest time was before you got here?

It probably didn't hurt that my life was so insane, and so insanely messed up before I came here. The Barge has its own unique way of messing with a person, though--you know that--so I wouldn't say it was easy. Just slightly less traumatic.

Yeah. I wasn't trying to say I thought it was easy for you.

Has anybody ever told you that you're wise?
